Debrecen is the second largest city in the country, the scientific and cultural centre of the eastern part of Hungary. It is also regularly mentioned as the town of festivals, the Calvinist Rome, a town of schools and even the town of permanence.
Visitors love the main square of the city, which offers a selection of lovely summer evening programmes from live concerts to beer festivals. The renewed Déri Square attracts people with the cosy atmosphere of its fountains conjuring up the spirit of the bygone days. One national or international sport event succeeds the other in the Fonix Hall, and the traditional and new great events of the city draw more and more visitors here year after year.

The Nagyerdő (Great Forest) is a popular green area in the town, with a zoo, an Adventure Park and an arboretum. It has been a nature reserve since 1939 and it is an integral part of a city, which is unique in Europe. The thermal water of the Thermal Bath in Nagyerdo is known worldwide to be recommended for arthritis, rheumatic diseases, gynaecological diseases, diseases of the vertebral disks, orthopaedic deformations and neuralgia, while the open pool is generally great fun.

Throughout the year festivities, events, concerts are offering various types of entertainment of a high standard. The colourful Flower Carnival on the 20th of August, the Jazz Days and the Summer University for people learning Hungarian are prominent among the rich cultural programs.
The Hungarian Dental Association is also located in Debrecen.
